The Foreign Affairs Department, BJP in collaboration with Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) organized a Round Table discussion on the topic “India-US Partnership in the Current Global Scenario” on 23rd December 2015 by Dr. Tanvi Madan Fellow in the Project on International Order and Strategy & Director of the India Projects at Brookings Institution. Dr. Madan’s work explores Indian foreign policy, focusing in particular on India’s relations with China and the United States.During the discussion Dr. Madan explained the India-U.S. relationship in perspective and how this relationship has evolved over a period of time. She said that India and the U.S. have a fundamental stake in each other’s success—for the sake of our values and our many shared interests. She highlighted that the defense trade relationship has been a key element of this cooperation, with hopes for much more on this front in coming years. She also said that “Beyond economic and defense ties, there has been more people-to-people engagement than ever before, with increased travel from the United States to India and from India to United States. While India has economic and defense ties with other major powers as well, one of the elements that makes its relationship with the United States different is the significant Indian Diaspora in the United States that has grown over the last two decades. She also pointed that there seems to be more popular support than ever before in the United States during PM Modi’s tenure for strengthening the relationship because everyone in US believes that Modi is a person who can deliver on the economic front because of his outstanding track record as the Chief Minister in Gujarat and also the last 18 months of his tenure has been very promising with India has become the bright spot in the World Economy.

Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, Convener of the Foreign Affairs Department of BJP and Dr Anirban Ganguly, Director welcomed the speaker.

The Talk was also attended by Vice President of BJP Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Mr. Jayadev Ranade, President Centre for China Analysis & Strategy, Mr. Prafull Ketkar among others.
