Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Cell of BJP & OFBJP organized a talk by Mr. Stewart Beck, former High Commissioner of Canada to India and President & CEO, Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada, on “India-Canada Relations: Post PM Modi’s Visit” at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi on 26th May 2015.
Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, Convener of BJP Foreign Affairs Cell introduced the speaker and the theme while Dr. Anirban Ganguly, Director SPMRF, welcomed the speaker and the gathering.
Mr. Beck spoke in detail about Prime Minister Modi’s recent Canada visit and of how it has changed and brought India-Canada relations to a next dynamic level leaving behind forty years of near stagnation and mistrust. He spoke of four areas as being central to India-Canada relations and in which both the countries could enhance cooperation and set a cooperative framework for the next twenty years. The four pillars of India-Canada cooperation that Mr. Beck discussed are food security, energy, infrastructure creation and skill development.
A detailed question and answer session followed Mr. Beck’s talk. Dr. Ganguly, while summing up emphasized on the dynamic foreign policy outreach initiated under PM Modi in the last one year and of how it has made a difference and redefined a number of important relationships.
A cross-section attend the discussion which included, former diplomats, civil servant, former army officers, NRI’s members of the business and think-tank community and students.
