MBSI Hosts 11th International Conference on Pali and Buddhism Held in Sarnath, Celebrating India’s Classical Language

The Anagarika Dharmapala International Institute of Pali & Buddhist Studies and Monastic Training, in collaboration with the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, organized the 11th International Conference on “Pali and Buddhism” at Mulagandha Kuti Vihara, Sarnath. The theme of the conference, “Pali: India’s Classical Language and the Legacy of the Buddha,” brought together renowned scholars, students, and dignitaries to discuss the rich heritage of the Pali language and Buddhist teachings.

The event was graced by Dr. Anirban Ganguly, Chairman of the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, as the Chief Guest, and Ven. Pepiliyawala Narada Thero from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka as the Special Guest. Leading scholars from various prestigious universities engaged attendees with insightful discussions on the relevance and legacy of Pali.

The conference included the release of the 90th volume of Dharmadoot, an annual journal from the Maha Bodhi Society of India, and distribution of a promotional pamphlet by the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation. Ven. R. Sumiththananda Thero welcomed the distinguished guests, and Ven. Y. Seelawansa Thero read a message from Ven. P. Seewalee Thero, who could not attend due to health reasons.

The gathering concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sandip Kumar Singh, and mementoes were presented to honor the distinguished participants. The event highlighted the continuing significance of Pali as a classical language and the enduring wisdom of Buddhist teachings.
