The 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was observed at Raj Bhavan, recalling his life and celebrating his legacy. Several hundred participants from Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states participated in the event. Speakers highlighted his monumental role in national integration and in preserving the soul of Bharat.
Governor underscored Dr. Mookerjee’s pivotal role during Partition in ensuring that present-day West Bengal remained with India, and his ultimate sacrifice for the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the nation. The abrogation of Article 370 under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Thiru Narendra Modi, was a historic correction and a realization of Dr. Mookerjee’s vision.
Governor highlighted that the life and legacy of Dr. Mookerjee are inspiring the nation’s progress. Over the past 11 years, India has undergone a historic shift — with more than 300 million people lifted out of extreme poverty, its emergence as the world’s fourth-largest economy, and unprecedented last-mile delivery of welfare schemes.
This inclusive, all-round development, he said, reflects the ideals and vision of Dr. Mookerjee, as the nation advances confidently toward becoming a fully capable Viksit Bharat by 2047.
